I made this same mistake in the beginning. I used to introduce myself as a “life coach,” thinking that the more people I help, the better the business will be. But I soon realized that when you are for everyone, you are actually for no one. There is so much noise in the market that the voice of another “general coach” gets lost.

• You are not a ‘life coach’. You are not a ‘career coach’ either. You are much more than that. The real mantra is ‘super-specialization’. Choose a micro-niche where you rule alone. When you are so specific that your offer itself becomes your identity, clients will come looking for you.

• 𝗠𝘆 𝗘𝘅𝗽𝗲𝗿𝗶𝗲𝗻𝗰𝗲 : I saw a coach who only taught “public speaking,” but his business was average. When he changed his niche to “Coach for TEDx Speakers to Win the Audience in the First 60 Seconds,” the game changed completely. Suddenly, he had a specific market, a specific problem, and a specific solution.

• 𝗬𝗼𝘂𝗿 𝗔𝗰𝘁𝗶𝗼𝗻 𝗦𝘁𝗲𝗽 : Look at the cross-section of your skill and passion. Then, choose a specific demographic that has a clear problem. Example: Instead of becoming a “Stress Management Coach,” become a “Burnout Coach for Software Developers in Tier -2 Cities.” Or instead of a “Fitness Coach,” become a “Post-Pregnancy Core Strength Coach for Working Mothers Aged 40+.” This specialization will be the first and strongest pillar of your Successful Coaching Business.

When I started, I made sure to do at least two live sessions a week, which made people know me as a real and accessible expert.
